The highest quality of preventive, youth friendly and confidential health care must be provided on-site to middle-school students; and those health services must be embedded in broader programming that covers nutrition, fitness, prevention and reproductive education.

  • Advocating for a Positive Dental Perspective

    At Perspectives Calumet Middle School, living A Disciplined Life (ADL) means living a healthy lifestyle, respecting your potential and yourself-mind and body. In the 2009-10 school year, Perspectives Calumet Middle School students exhibited these ADL characteristics by receiving free dental care from Advocate Illinois Masonic Dental Center (Advocate Illinois Masonic).

  • ACCESS@Perspectives-Calumet Health Center

    In May 2009, Perspectives became the first of Chicago’s five Elev8 schools (the others are Ames Middle School, Marquette Elementary, Orozco Community Academy and Reavis Elementary) to open a health center, thanks to a grant from The Atlantic Philanthropies and matching local funds.

    At Perspectives-Calumet Middle School, leading 'a disciplined life' means respecting those around you, respecting your potential, and respecting yourself – your mind and your body. This March students demonstrated these values by taking advantage of dental health services offered by Atlantic Philanthropies' Elev8 Program and the Chicago Public Schools School-based oral health program.

    With a focus on sports & fitness opportunities, nutrition & health education, and leadership development, Chicago-based Girls in the Game partnered with Access Community Health Network to provide a Game Day for female sophomore students at Perspectives Charter Schools-Calumet Campus.

    Several hundred Auburn Gresham residents and visitors attended Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation’s (GADC) 1st Annual Health Fair on the Block. This fair had participation from nearly 30 healthcare agencies and providers, service organizations, educational institutions, and local retail businesses all promoting some aspect of health and wellness in Auburn Gresham.
