Four Partner Organizations, Two-Generations Host Serve-A-Thon To Honor Dr. King's Legacy

Four Partner Organizations (Chicago Cares, Uptake, Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation and Cook Elementary School (Chicago Public Schools)) share the impact and lessons from the civil rights movement, by hosting a Serve-A-Thon to Honor Dr. King's legacy. The event held at Cook Elementary School, on January 17, 2017, brought approximately 100 Uptake volunteers to participate in seven service unique projects, all designed to leave a historical mark at Cook or in the community. The projects consisted of painting art memorable pieces, creating sturdy benches that could be placed around the school, a complete reorganization of Cook's school library, a complete paint makeover of three classrooms, making hand made full size quilts (without a sewing machine) to be distributed to local veterans, a discussion and capturing of civil rights stories and a large black and white art piece, that unveiled a picture of Dr. King as it was put together.
