City of Chicago Business Works Seminar

"Business Works" is a FREE event that focuses on helping grow small business in every community.  Three other similar Business Works seminars are planned in 2007 for the West, North and Central part of the city.

This is the first event of its kind put together by the city.  “Business Works” provides great opportunity for you and members of your organization to learn important lessons on how to run and operate a business; meet important business and community leaders and business owners in the area; and, obtain important information from exhibiting agencies. 

Here are some Business Works highlights:

Short Program:
*Area aldermen have been invited to speak and attend.
*The keynote speaker is Mr. John Meyer, owner of BJ’s Market & Bakery who will speak on building a successful business.

*Three key business organizations will conduct important workshop:
   o  SCORE will conduct a workshop on “Marketing Your Business”
   o  ACCION will conduct a workshop on “Alternative Financing”
   o  Hull House will conduct a workshop on “Developing a Business Plan”

Exhibit Booths:
*Exhibitors will provide important information.  Some of the attendees
include:
    o  The City’s Department of Business Affairs & Licensing (business licensing)
    o  The City’s Department of Planning & Development (financial incentives)
    o  The City’s Department of Procurement Services (city contracts)
    o  The City’s Department of Revenue (city taxes, burglar alarms, etc)
    o  The Small Business Administration (SBA loans, and business assistance)
    o  Accion Chicago (alternative financial resources)
    o  New Englewood Village Chamber of Commerce (chamber services)

Networking:
*Make important business contacts in your area at the networking session.
*Get connected to important chambers and organizations in the area.
*Soft drinks and appetizers will be made available.

members, post on your website and in your offices.
