AG Continuing to Dabble in Growing New Businesses in the Neighborhood

Many of our businesses are ready for the next level and just need a little help from a trusted partner to take the first step or to help remove roadblocks. As part of our economic development efforts, bringing new businesses to life, in locations where once thriving neighborhood staples existed, remains a top priority. One such location is the home of the long deserted Moore’s Barker aka Dressel’s bakery has stood as a neighborhood landmark since the 50’s. Now Dabble Café & Market is coming soon, at the long vacant site 1235 W 79th Street. They are looking forward to introducing a neighborhood market reimagined and to be part of the neighborhood. Perhaps even inclusive of an active green roof, which will provide a small version of farm to table in the market. As they prepare to dabble in a mix of eclectic recipes, we referred them to the 79th Street Renaissance Festival “Crawl” planners to have a tasting of a little of this and little of that.

Ultimately their real needs were access to last capital needs, which included numerous meetings for hands on assistance with their NOF application. We gave assistance on areas they could revise and additional documents to include, that would make for a stronger application. It was successfully submitted. During that process, we uncovered some additional conditions that needed to be satisfied with the city prior to an opening. Once those were on the table to address, we begin to work with them to resolve their business license issues. We are continuing to work through these licensing issues.
