South Side Red Line Reopens As Planned

Trains are running again along the South Branch of the CTA’s Red Line following the completion of a five-month, $475 million dollar reconstruction project

Trains began running from the 95th Street to Chinatown’s Cermak stations beginning at 4am Sunday morning.

Eight stations were renovated and the train tracks were replaced along the entire route.

CTA spokesman Steve Mayberry says riders will notice a much smoother and quicker ride.  Some commuters will save up to twenty minutes on their rides.

The 95th Street Station will be renovated and upgraded next Spring.
