Auburn Gresham, Chicago's Fifth $1 Large Lot Purchase Program Ends Up Number One!

If you own land in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, for the past few months you had a chance to buy up two vacant lots, from the City of Chicago for $1 a lot and proof of ownership on the block. Huge kudos to the Auburn Gresham residents, a community that showed up and almost bought out!

The $1.00 Large Lots Project officially concluded in the Auburn Gresham community, May 15th, after a few extensions to the original 30 day window. And this truly proved to be a much needed addition.  We worked assertively to canvass and educate the community on this phenomenal opportunity.  The motto, "Connect to your dreams," was really encouraged to motivate property owners to extend their dream of land 0nwnership. The  dream goal of the Auburn Gresham community was to buy all the lots!

There were 93 application received for 60 eligible lots.  We broke the record of having 65% of lots that were applied for throughout other communities in Chicago.

NIcole Wheatly, Large $1 Lot program manager says, "I received another call from LISC Chicago today congratulating us on our success. They also confirmed the final data, which supported Auburn Gresham having the highest percentage of Lots sold, in this fifth Large Lots program deployment. One lesson learned by the City of Chicago, is to potentially deploy only one community at a time, in future $1 Large Lot intiatives.

Ms. Wheatly sent a heartfelt thank you to the Greater Auburn Gresham Development staff and community members that assisted making the program a huge success.  "Thank you all for taking calls, volunteering your time, assisting people with application input and much more.  It takes a team to pull off this type of success and it would not have been possible without you all!"

SPECIAL THANKS TO JAH RANU MENANB, NORMA SANDERS, TEHUTI DISHMAN for the multitude of days servicing people.

We will begin planning a day to get all of the 60 people that purchased a lot in the same room to help them understand options of developing their lot.
