Litter Free Zone Gets Green Carpet Treatment

Patricia Blessman

The City of Chicago literally rolled out a green carpet to celebrate local eco-friendly efforts that serve as a model for the rest of the community and, as evidenced by its prominent role in Mayor Daley’s Chicago Climate Action Plan and the rest of Chicago as well.

Climate change affects everyone, but low and moderate-income neighborhoods are often disproportionately affected by these issues. The Greater-Auburn Gresham Development Corporation’s Litter Free Zone Initiative was designed to empower the community to fight climate change by teaching youth environmental responsibility.

GADC's Ernest Sanders along with student ambassadors, Justin Richardson and Jermaine Martin were in attendance at the free summer film screening of Peter Byck’s “Carbon Nation” film at Millennium Park. This screening and festival also featured live entertainment, other environmental local “heroes” on the green carpet, celebrities and every-day actions to combat climate change.
