    registrations, donations (processed by secure third-party processors), and limited technical
    data (IP address, device/browser, pages visited, and cookies/analytics).
  • How we use it: To operate the site, respond to inquiries, register you for programs or
    events, process donations and acknowledgments, send updates you request, and improve
    site performance.
  • Cookies & analytics: We use essential cookies and basic analytics to understand usage and
    improve our content. You can adjust your browser settings to block cookies; some features
    may not work.
  • Email & text: If you provide your email or phone, you may receive updates about programs,
    events, or fundraising. You can unsubscribe or reply STOP at any time.
  • Sharing: We do not sell your personal information. We may share with service providers
    who support our operations (e.g., email, forms, payment processors) and as required by
    law.
  • Children’s privacy: Our online content is for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect
    personal information online from children under 13 without parental consent.
  • Security: We use reasonable safeguards to protect information sent to or stored on our
    systems; no system is 100% secure.

Privacy Policy

  1. Who we are
    Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation (“GAGDC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a
    nonprofit organization based in Chicago, Illinois. We operate programs and services that support
    residents, families, youth, seniors, and small businesses. This Privacy Policy explains how we
    collect, use, share, and protect personal information across our websites, events, programs, and
    services (the “Services”). This Policy applies to website visitors, donors, volunteers, program
    participants (including students and parents/guardians), vendors, and partners. If a specific
    program has a separate privacy or data-sharing agreement, that document governs for that
    program.
  2. Information we collect
    Identifiers & contact details: name, address, email, phone, demographic information (e.g., age
    range), preferred language. Program & service information: school/grade, attendance records,
    participation data, assessments, case notes, goals, referral sources, and documentation needed
    to deliver services. Donor & transaction information: donation amounts, pledge history, event
    registrations, and limited payment details processed by secure third-party payment processors
    (we do not store full card numbers). Employment & volunteer applications: resumes, work
    history, references, and background check information when required by law or funders.
    Technical data: IP address, device/browser type, pages viewed, and cookies or similar
    technologies for site functionality and analytics. Media: photographs, video, or audio from
    events and programs. Sensitive data (limited and purpose-bound): only where necessary and
    lawful—e.g., emergency contact/health notes for program safety. We do not seek to collect
    biometric identifiers. If a program ever uses biometrics, we will provide a separate notice and
    obtain express consent consistent with Illinois law.
  3. How we collect information
    Directly from you via forms, applications, surveys, sign-ins, email, SMS, phone, and in-person
    interactions; from schools and partners under written agreements and applicable laws;
    automatically through cookies, pixels, and analytics; and from publicly available sources to
    maintain accurate records.
  4. How we use information
    Deliver, improve, and evaluate programs and services; communicate about schedules,
    opportunities, safety, events, fundraising, and updates; comply with funding, audit, and
    reporting requirements; process donations and tax receipts; maintain security and prevent
    fraud; meet legal obligations; and conduct de-identified research and impact evaluation
    whenever feasible.
  5. Legal bases / authority to processWe process information with your consent, to perform a contract (e.g., enrollment), to complywith laws and grants, and for our legitimate interest in running effective, safe programs. Whenrequired, we seek parental/guardian consent for minors.
  6. How we share information We do not sell personal information. We may share with schools and partner organizations under written agreements; with service providers and vendors who must protect information and use it only for our purposes; when required by law or to protect safety (including mandated reporting); and during organizational transitions where protections will follow your data.
  7. Student records & education data (FERPA alignment) GAGDC is not a school but may receive education records from schools to support students. We handle such records as a “school official” under written agreements, using them only for authorized educational purposes and protecting them as required. Parents/eligible students should contact the school for FERPA rights; we will assist the school in responding appropriately.
  8. Health information GAGDC is generally not a HIPAA-covered entity. We collect only limited health or safety information needed to support program participation (e.g., allergies for field trips). If we partner with a healthcare provider, that provider’s HIPAA notice will apply to clinical data they manage.
  9. Children’s privacy (COPPA) Our online content is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Parents/guardians can contact us to review or delete a child’s information.
  10. Photos, video, and event media We may capture photos/video at programs and events for storytelling and accountability to supporters. We will honor posted signage and opt-out requests when feasible. For minors, we seek parental/guardian consent where required. To request removal of a specific image, contact us (Section 16).
  11. Cookies, analytics, and online tracking We use essential cookies and basic analytics to operate and improve our website. You can adjust browser settings to block cookies, which may limit site functionality. We do not respond to “Do Not Track” signals at this time.
  12. Text messages and email By providing your phone or email, you consent to receive messages related to programs, events, or fundraising. You can opt-out at any time by replying STOP to SMS or clicking “unsubscribe” in emails. Standard carrier rates may apply.
  13. Data retention We retain information only as long as necessary for program delivery, audits, legal requirements, and historical/accounting records. Typical retention examples (subject to funder or legal rules): Program files—7 years after last service year; Incident/safety reports—7–10 years; Donor and finance records—7 years; Volunteer background checks—duration of service +3 years. When retention ends, we securely delete or de-identify data.
  14. Security We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (access controls, encryption in transit where appropriate, staff training, vendor due diligence). No system is 100% secure; we will notify affected individuals and/or authorities as required in the event of a qualifying breach.
  15. Your choices and rights Subject to applicable law, you may access, correct, or delete your information; change communication preferences; withdraw consent; or request limits on use/sharing. We will respond within a reasonable time and as required by law. Some records (e.g., legal/audit) may be retained despite a deletion request.
